Lower Broadheath
The Village has three public houses; The Plough Inn is adjacent to the Elgar Centre. The DewDrop is in Bell Lane, and the Bell, is in the centre of the village with the Post office and Stores opposite. Nearby is Heath Nurseries. Lower Broadheath has many footpaths; most of which are well used, walking is a very good way to enjoy the scenery and get some exercise. There is an active Gardening Society, a Sunshine Club and an Old Motorcycle Club. The Village hall and the Primary School are in Church Lane. Although it is a rural area, there is a factory producing cakes, for the major supermarkets on the outskirts, providing employment. There are many businesses based in the village ranging from a print firm,
plant Hire Company, Coach hire, and a Cheese factory. Even a Quad bike
trekking centre. In the 1840's a sailor called Smith retired from the Navy and opened
an alehouse in Martley road called "the Sailors Return" The
hill nearby was later named "Sailors Bank". Sailor Smiths Daughter
in law kept a sweet shop in the village, the house is now called "The
White Cottage". Laylocks. An old Worcestershire name for the Lilac Tree which grew in
profusion in Upper Broadheath. |
