Grimley

Grimley a small picturesque village 3.5 miles north of Worcester. Contains some recently built houses and barn conversions. Has an unusual old church.

Wagon Wheel Inn at Grimley

There are two well-supported public houses, in Grimley, "The Camp House Inn", and "The Wagon Wheel"

The area around Grimley, has a network of footpaths, and is a popular place for walkers.

Another very popular leisure activity in Grimley is Stock Car racing, which takes place a few times a year. The track is situated off the A443, on the village outskirts.

There are several well-stocked fishing lakes in Grimley and are well used by anglers.

For a number of year's sand and gravel has been quarried locally, new sandpits have been opened recently; wildlife and flora quickly colonise.

A few small businesses are based in Grimley, ranging from civil engineers to a steel fabricator. There is also a small industrial estate.

Grimley is situated near the river and forms the boundary with Worcester. "Bevere locks" Weir and Island is also close by.
The people of Worcester have used "Bevere Island" on two occasions as a refuge, first from the Danes in 1031 and from the Plague in 1637, which swept through Worcester, during which, a fifth of the population perished.
The island is accessed over an old, possibly unsafe, iron bridge from the Worcester side.

In recent times a local philanthropist, Gerald Coates constructed an arboretum with paved paths and ornamental gates, he named it "Gods Gracious Garden".
There are plaques on the gates containing poetry and prose; it is accessed from Greenhill Lane Hallow and the footpath near "The Camp House Inn".

My mother was the most beautiful woman I ever saw, all I am I owe to my mother, I attribute all my success in life to the moral intellectual and physical education I received from her. Every man for the sake of the blessed mother in heaven and for the love of his own little mother on earth should handle all womankind gently and hold them in all honour, the mothers heart is the childs schoolroom all mothers are rich when they love their children. There is no poor mother, no ugly ones, no old ones, their love is always the most beautiful of the joys, and when they seem most sad it needs but a kiss, which they receive or give to turn all their tears into stars in the depth of their eyes. The woman who creates and sustains a home and under whose hands children grow up to be strong and pure men and women, is a creator second only to god.
